Terms & Conditions

Cookies

To make this site work properly, we sometimes place small data files called cookies on your device.

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your preferences (such as your language) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.

How do we use cookies?

All cookies on this site are anonymous, which means that no personal data is stored or sent to third-parties.

1. Functional cookies

Cookies to remember your language and other preferences.

2. Analytic cookies

These cookies register which sites you visit and what links are clicked. They enable us to optimise the website content and measure the traffic our site gets.

How can you remove cookies?

You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services and functionalities may not work.

Privacy
We take privacy seriously and make sure we only collect information that is used to handle a request, booking, membership or to optimise the website. We do not use the data for any other purpose and we don't pass it on to third parties without explicit permission.

Request by filling out a form

Every request that is sent to us using a form is stored on the website. This allows us to handle your request in a smooth way. You can ask to see or erase this information by sending an email to management@hosteluppelink.com.

Member details

If you become a member of Vlaamse Jeugdherbergen (Flemish Youth Hostel Association or VJH) your data is stored in our member database. We need those details to process and send the personalised member card. If your membership is about to expire, we send you a reminder by post. After that we store your data for 4 years. If you don’t renew your membership during this time, your data will be erased automatically. You can ask to see or erase this data at our main office.

Guest details

For the hostel bookings across different channels we work with the PMS system ASSD. To handle a booking, we store data of our guests. You can ask to see or erase this data at our main office.

If you make on online booking you receive a booking confirmation via email. Shortly after your stay we send an online survey to improve our services (as of 1/8/2018, via the company Customer Alliance). The results of these surveys are only for internal use.

The security of the payment transaction is the responsibility of the payment service provider, in this case the company Ingenico Group. All payments are secured by encrypting methods (3D-security – SSL-encryption – Verified by Visa – MasterCard Secure Code). VJH never has access to the customer’s credit card details during the whole transaction.

On arrival in the hostel we are legally liable to register the guest details and to keep this data at the disposal of the police, for a determined period of time. After this time, the data is removed.
